A world of war

It may seem like the world is getting more and more violent with the war in Ukraine, tensions between India and Pakistan, a suspected Chinese invasion of Taiwan and the war in Gaza.
Looking for peace?

As wonderful as the thought is, it’s unlikely we will ever experience true world peace, where noone is fighting and we can all get along.
That being said, there are some places on Earth, that are like small oases of bliss and peace.
The Global Peace Index

For the 19th time, the Global Peace Index (GPI) has ranked 163 independent states and territories according to the levels of peacefulness.

All in all it covers 99.7 % of the world’s population.
Peace score

The GPI measures peace using three domains:
- Ongoing domestic and international conflict
- Societal safety and security
- Militarisation
Various statistical investigators are use for each domain, eventually resulting in a combined peace score – the lower the number, the more peaceful
For reference, the peace score for Ukraine is 3434.
10. Finland

Moving up one spot from the last edition, Finland is the first country in the top 10.

The Finns can boast a peace score of 1420.
9. Slovenia

Claiming the number 9 spot (the same as in the last edition) is Slovenia with a peace score of 1409.
8. Denmark

Moving down one spot from the last edition, Denmark comes in at 8th.
The peace score of the Danes is 1393.
7. Portugal

Moving in front of Denmark after being one spot behind in the last edition is Portugal at number 7.

6. Singapore

Asia enters the top 10 at number 6 with Singapore, reclaiming the spot from the last edition.
Singapore gets a peace score of 1357.
5. Switzerland

Heading back yto Europe, Switzerland moves down one spot from the last edition and comes in at 5th this year.
The Swizz gets a peace score of 1294.
4. Austria

Another European country, Austria, claims 4th, one spot down on the list from the previous edition.
The Austrians score 1294.
3. New Zealand

Heading back to the East, New Zealand moves up two spots on the list, taking 3rd place on this years index with a score of 1282.
2. Ireland

Back in Europa, Ireland reclaims second on the list with a peace score of 1260
1. Iceland

The overall winner is, again, Iceland with an incredible peace score of 1095.

United States of America – 128

The US comes in at number 128 out of 163, the same as in the last edition.
The US gets a peace score of 2443.
United Kingdom – 30

The UK moves up two spots on the list, claiming 30th with a peace score of 1634.
Canada – 14

The Canadians gets a peace score of 1491.
Australia – 18

Moving up one spot to 18th, we find Australia with a peace score of 1505.
China – 98

Moving down 11 spots from the last edition, China comes in at 98th on the list with a peace score of 2093.
