A re-do

The election is actually a re-do of the elections held in late 2024. Last years election saw nationalist candidate, Calin Georgescu, getting the majority of the votes in the first round.

Russian influence

Before the second round was to be held, the Constitutional Court of Romania decided the annul the election due to intelligence documents proving a sate-supported Russiand online campaign in favor of Georgescu.

“Russia, Russia, remember this!”

According to news reports, thousands of Romanians gathered in the streets last night, shouting “Russia, Russia, remember this, Romania is not yours!”

Overplayed his cards

Simion recieved the majority of the votes from Romanians living abroad, but analysts suggest he “overplayed his hand” by spreading misinformation and disparaging his opponent.

He is an open supporter of the MAGA-movement.

So who is Nicusor Dan?

The new Romanian president is currently the mayor of the ROmanian capital of Bucharest. He is a soft-spoken mathematician and 55 years of age.

Political promises
