The death of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good has sparked nationwide protests and fierce criticism of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Many have questioned whether the use of deadly force was justified.

Federal officials, including President Donald Trump, have defended the ICE agent involved, claiming Good attempted to use her vehicle against officers. That account has been challenged by video footage and eyewitness statements, keeping public outrage alive.

The agent at the center of the case has been identified as Jonathan E. Ross, a ten-year veteran of ICE’s elite Special Response Team.

A past incident revisited

Supporters of Ross have pointed to a violent encounter months earlier as relevant context.

In June 2025, Ross was injured while attempting to arrest Roberto Carlos Muñoz, an undocumented immigrant who fled in a car.

Ross was dragged roughly 100 yards, suffering serious injuries that required 33 stitches.

During a White House briefing, Vice President JD Vance cited the incident, saying: “[T]hat very ICE officer nearly had his life ended, dragged by a car six months ago, 33 stitches in his leg.”

Court records later showed Ross’ injuries were to his arms and hands, not his leg.

A father speaks out

Ross himself has remained silent, but his 80-year-old father, Ed Ross, offered a forceful defense in an interview with the Daily Mail.

“She hit him,” Ed Ross said. “He also had an officer whose arm was in the car. He will not be charged with anything.”

He described his son as “a committed, conservative Christian, a tremendous father, a tremendous husband,” adding, “You would never find a nicer, kinder person […] I couldn’t be more proud [sic] of him.”

Life beyond the badge

According to the Daily Mail, Ross has lived near Minneapolis since 2015 and has worked for ICE since at least 2013.

His family is described as deeply religious, with ties to church-affiliated organizations.

Neighbors told the outlet that Ross is a strong supporter of the MAGA movement. “The wife is polite, very nice, very outgoing, while he’s very reserved,” one neighbor said.

Money and division

A GoFundMe campaign launched in Ross’ name has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. Organizer Clyde Emmons wrote: “I feel that the officer that was 1000 percent justified in the shooting deserves to have a go fund me.”

Billionaire investor Bill Ackman donated $10,000, saying he was “a big believer in our legal principle that one is innocent until proven guilty.”
