It’s not breaking news that Russia is being aided by foreign fighters in the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Thousands of North Korean fighters have allegedly joined the Russian ranks, and fighters from India, African nations and even China have also been reported to be fighting for Russia – although many of them were tricked into going to war.
There have also been public calls in Russia for Cuban fighters to join the Russian side, but according to new intelligence from the Ukranian intelligence services, Russia has now turned to the Middle East in an attempt to boost their numbers on the ground.
And they are trying to reqruite fighters, that have been trained by NATO.
Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq
Jānis Slaidiņš, Estonian NAF Major, said on the TV24 Program “Current Affairs on the War in Ukraine” that Russia is trying to recruit soldiers from the Middle Eastern countries of Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Especially Afghanistan could be a worrying development, as thousands of Afghani troops has been trained by NATO from 2001 until 2021.
The intelligence suggest that both former Afghan soldiers, representatives from the special forces as well as intelligence officers are being recruited, and they are being offered a compensation of between $1500 and $2500 a month – including an opportunity to become Russian citizens.
$10,000 to build a house in Russia
In Iran, Russia is allegedly looking for volunteers to fight for the Russian army, and Iraqis are being offered between $2500 and $3000 a month to join.
On top of that, Iraqis are also being offered $10,000 to build a house in Russia.
Reports suggest that there are currently 1,400 Iraqi citizens servinf in the Russian army.
