Kash Patel demanded FBI agents respond to a social media account calling him a ‘retard’

When Kash Patel was confirmed as the director of the FBI, there was a lot of criticism that the lawyer was unqualified and was only appointed because of his loyalty to Trump.

There has also been mounting criticism with allegations that Patel is more concerned with his personal image than the actual work.

A journalist dug through text messages that show the criticism might be warranted.

Text messages uncovered

Independent national security journalist Seth Hettena dug up texts between Patel and the FBI’s assistant director for public affairs, Ben Williamson, that were released under the Freedom of Information Act.

The text messages show a correspondence between the two in which the director is livid and wants to respond to a slur-filled social media account called “IfindRetards.”

The troll account posted a picture of Patel with the caption “His retard rating just went to all-time highs. Congratulations Kash.”

The text messages show Patel being very adamant that the post warranted a reply from his official administrative account to show the public that the FBI is doing a sufficient job.

When Williamson pushed against those wishes and said it would be a bad PR move, Kash snapped and wrote, “it’s not about them, it is about the number of views, because people see it and need to be seeing our stats.”

Patel is obsessed with optics on social media

There is no doubt that Kash Patel was under a lot of pressure when the account posted his picture calling him a slur. It was posted in February on the same day that Patel was receiving mounting criticism over missing documents in the Epstein files.

It is also not the first time that Patel has tried to go out of his way to polish his own image after intense criticism.

He has also been obsessed with social media during his time as the head of the FBI. When Charlie Kirk was assassinated a year ago, Patel was quick to post sensitive information about the investigation.

This caused a lot of disinformation to be communicated through official FBI channels to the public before any claims were verified. As a result, people on both sides of the aisle said he “bungled” the investigation by prematurely declaring the assassin had been captured.

According to The Telegraph, the FBI declined to comment.
