What once looked like a powerful political alliance has unraveled into a public feud. But now, Elon Musk is trying to walk back at least part of his highly public spat with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Musk Softens His Tone
In a post on his platform X, better known as Twitter, Elon Musk admitted he may have crossed a line in his recent social media attacks on Trump.
“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump from last week. They went too far,” Musk wrote early Tuesday morning U.S. time.
The now-deleted posts alleged both Trump’s involvement with Epstein, but also called him a pedophile.

The statement comes days after the two prominent figures, once close allies, launched bitter criticisms at each other online. Trump, responding to the conflict, called Musk a “man who has lost his mind” and accused him of threatening to fund Democratic candidates.
A Rift That Started With Spending Cuts
Musk, who briefly held a cabinet-level role leading the Department for Government Efficiency, was tasked with trimming the U.S. federal budget.
But a clash over a key spending bill reportedly pushed Trump to distance himself from the tech mogul.
Musk, in turn, made incendiary remarks, claiming Trump wouldn’t have won re-election without his support and suggesting that sealed documents related to Jeffrey Epstein implicate the president—comments that drew sharp criticism.
Errol Musk Weighs In
Adding to the public commentary, Elon Musk’s father, Errol Musk, told Russian state media that the feud was likely caused by stress.
“They’ve both been under pressure for five months,” he said in Moscow. “Elon made a mistake… but it was a small thing. Tomorrow it’ll be over.”
Errol also voiced support for Trump, stating, “Trump will prevail—he is the president, he was elected.”
While the relationship between Musk and Trump appears fractured, both camps have left the door open to future shifts. For now, though, Musk’s regrets may be more about tone than substance.
