The New York Knicks’ championship victory may influence more than basketball fans, with baby-name experts predicting some parents could look to the team’s stars for inspiration.
Jalen leads the way
According to People, names linked to key Knicks players, including Jalen Brunson, Joshua Hart, Miles McBride and Tyler Kolek, could see a rise in popularity following the team’s first NBA title in 53 years.
Nameberry founder Pamela Redmond said the team’s success and strong sense of community could make those names more appealing to parents.
Brunson as a first name?
Redmond also suggested that Brunson’s surname could begin appearing more frequently as a first name.
According to People, nine baby boys were named Brunson in 2025, a number experts believe could increase after the championship run.
Not every celebrity name catches on
Naming expert Colleen Slagen noted that successful celebrity-inspired names tend to work well independently of the famous person attached to them.
She believes Jalen is particularly well-positioned because it already carries positive associations and has an established history of popularity.
