Russian state television personalities have publicly discussed potential strikes on government buildings and foreign diplomatic locations in Kyiv amid growing tensions ahead of Russia’s Victory Day celebrations.
The Express reported that pro-Kremlin presenter Olga Skabeeva named several sites in the Ukrainian capital, including the British Embassy, during a televised discussion about possible retaliation against Ukraine.
Embassy mentioned
According to The Express, Skabeeva referenced the embassy’s location while describing buildings she claimed could become targets if Ukraine carried out attacks linked to Russia’s May 9 parade in Moscow.
“In the event of a provocation, the entire government quarter and the Verkhovna Rada [parliament] will come under a strike,” she said.
She also referred to the Ukrainian security service headquarters and identified the area where “Diplomats from London are based”.
Wider warnings issued
The report said Skabeeva additionally mentioned the embassies of the United States, Germany, Canada, Poland and France during the broadcast.
Russia’s Defence Ministry later issued a statement warning that Moscow could launch a “massive missile strike on the centre of Kyiv” if Ukraine attempted to disrupt Victory Day events.
According to The Express, the ministry also urged civilians and foreign diplomatic staff to leave the city “in a timely manner”.
Kremlin rhetoric escalates
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called on foreign governments to evacuate embassy personnel from Kyiv, the report said.
She warned states to take “very, very seriously” Russia’s threats of retaliatory action against what Moscow described as “decision-making centres”.
The comments came after accusations from Russian officials that President Volodymyr Zelensky could attempt drone strikes linked to the Red Square parade.
Direct threats aired
Another guest on Russian state television, Konstantin Knyryk of sanctioned outlet News Front, reportedly spoke about targeting buildings associated with Zelensky in Kyiv.
“Our target for strikes (in Kyiv) is Bankova Street,” he said during the broadcast.
The comments mark another escalation in public rhetoric on Russian state media as tensions rise around Victory Day celebrations and ongoing long-range attacks between Russia and Ukraine.
