A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to arrange the assassination of the Hungary’s prime minister, according to Digi24.
Hungarian police say the suspect wanted someone to kill Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
He was apparently looking to hire a contract killer and was ready to pay for it. Authorities say the man went online and posted on a website that operates on a foreign server.
Not Just Talk
In July, he made a public post offering money in Hungarian forints or any other currency. He claimed he was searching for “the best paid assassin” to carry out the murder.
Prosecutors say the man wasn’t just talking. They believe he was actively trying to find someone who would take the job.

Hungary’s National Bureau of Investigation confirmed the news on Wednesday. In a statement reported by state news agency MTI, they said they had begun the process to formally arrest the suspect.
The man was tracked down with the help of Hungary’s anti-terrorism unit, known as TEK. Once in custody, he reportedly admitted to everything. MTI says he gave a full confession.
Unclear Motive
At this point, authorities have not released the man’s name. It’s also unclear what his motive was. Officials haven’t said whether he was acting alone or as part of a larger group.
There is no evidence yet that the plan got beyond the stage of online posts and public statements. Still, the incident has raised concerns about the threat of violence directed at political leaders.
Viktor Orbán has been Hungary’s prime minister for more than a decade. He is known for his strong conservative positions and has been a polarizing figure both at home and abroad. The case is now under further investigation.
