Melania Trump’s disappearing act continues as new figures emerge.
The role of first lady has traditionally involved a packed calendar of official events, speeches and public engagements. That has looked very different during Donald Trump’s second term, with Melania Trump maintaining one of the lowest public profiles of any modern first lady.
A new analysis by the Daily Beast found that Melania Trump has appeared publicly on just 38 days so far in 2026. Her most recent public appearance came in mid-July, when she joined President Donald Trump at the FIFA World Cup Final at MetLife Stadium.
Averaging one appearance every six days
According to the analysis, the first lady has taken part in an official event or simply been photographed in public, on average, once every six days this year.
The tally includes official appearances as well as public sightings, such as her arrival aboard Air Force One in February.
Two of those appearances were tied to promoting Melania, the Amazon-backed documentary that reportedly earned her more than $10 million.
Melania Trump’s schedule became noticeably lighter during the summer months.
Throughout June and July, she appeared publicly or attended official events only five times. Two of those appearances were at sporting events.
She was notably absent from the dignified transfer ceremony honoring U.S. service members killed in Iranian strikes on July 22. The first lady also did not attend the rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Dinner or the funeral of Sen. Lindsey Graham at the U.S. Capitol later that month.
Still ahead of last year’s pace
Despite the limited number of appearances, Melania Trump has been more visible in 2026 than she was during the previous year.
She appeared publicly just 47 times throughout 2025 following Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20. With 38 appearances already recorded this year, she is currently on pace to surpass that total.
The analysis also found that Melania Trump has delivered relatively few public speeches during her husband’s second term, giving just 29 speeches so far.
For comparison, Michelle Obama delivered 130 speeches between January 2009 and August 2010, while Jill Biden, who was also working as an English professor, gave 43 speeches during a comparable period.
