The U.S. Department of Justice has charged a Pakistani national with conspiring to organize assassinations of American politicians and officials, according to a report by Lenta.

Planning Assassinations on American Soil

Federal prosecutors allege that 46-year-old Asif Merchant plotted to assassinate an unidentified U.S. government politician or official on American soil.

Sources indicate that Merchant's potential targets included former President and current presidential candidate Donald Trump. However, there is no evidence linking Merchant to the recent assassination attempt on Trump.

Also suspected of having connections to Iran

On July 13, former President Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. The attacker, who managed to injure Trump in the ear, was swiftly neutralized by Secret Service agents.

This incident has heightened concerns about the security of high-profile political figures in the U.S.

Merchant is also suspected of having connections to Iran, having spent time there before traveling from Pakistan to the United States. The investigation continues to explore his motives and connections, but his actions have raised significant concerns about international plots targeting U.S. political figures
