Poland’s military continues to bolster its defenses with South Korean firepower, as the 15th Giżycko Mechanized Brigade receives a new batch of advanced K2 Black Panther tanks.
New Arrivals Strengthen Eastern Flank

The 15th Giżycko Mechanized Brigade has officially taken delivery of its newest batch of K2 Black Panther tanks, part of an ongoing modernization effort within the Polish Armed Forces.
Celebrating the arrival on social media, the unit posted three words that summed up the cutting-edge machines: “Fast, dangerous, modern.”
A Deal with South Korea

These new tanks are the latest to arrive in recent months, with prior deliveries in May, June, and August.
The ongoing rollout is part of a landmark deal signed in 2022 between Poland and South Korea.

The initial contract called for the purchase of 180 K2 tanks, many of which have already been deployed across Poland’s northeastern units.
Among the recipients:
- 9th Braniewo Armored Cavalry Brigade
- 20th Bartoszyce Mechanized Brigade
- 15th Giżycko Mechanized Brigade
But that’s just the beginning. On August 1, 2025, Poland’s Ministry of National Defense signed a second contract for another 180 tanks, including 64 K2PL versions tailored specifically to Polish military standards.
Future Production

According to WP Tech, a framework agreement signed in 2022 lays out the ambitious long-term goal: up to 1,000 K2 Black Panthers, with the bulk of them to be produced in Poland in the future.

The K2 also packs serious firepower:
- Primary weapon: 120 mm smoothbore gun with automatic loader
- Secondary weapons: 7.62 mm machine gun and 12.7 mm heavy machine gun
Its sophisticated fire control systems and advanced armor make it a formidable platform in both offensive and defensive scenarios.

The Polish government sees the K2 program as a critical part of modernizing its military in response to growing regional tensions and lessons from recent conflicts.
