Who they are

Prince William, 43, is the Prince of Wales and heir to the British throne, increasingly active in royal duties and environmental causes.

His wife, Princess Kate, is the Princess of Wales, widely known for her charitable work and prominent role within the monarchy.

The couple, often seen as central figures in the modern royal family, frequently promote sport, wellness and outdoor activity through their public engagements.

Shared passion

During a meeting with the Colwyn Bay Blue Tits swimming group in north Wales, William spoke about his experience with cold-water dips, according to Ziare.com’s reporting.

He said he had taken icy plunges in Scotland, remarking: “You feel great afterwards. I love it. I scream and yell a lot when I get in the water.”

Kate’s love of cold swims

Ziare.com also cited Princess Kate’s earlier comments from her 2023 appearance on Mike Tindall’s podcast The Good, The Bad & The Rugby, where she described embracing freezing conditions with equal enthusiasm.

“I really, honestly, love all sports. Personally, I love swimming wherever I can. The colder the water, the better, even if it’s dark and raining. I absolutely love it,” she said.

She added that her passion sometimes startled her husband. “I got to the point where William said to me, ‘You’re crazy.’”

A glimpse into royal downtime

While royal duties dominate much of their public schedules, the couple’s remarks reveal something simple and relatable: they enjoy making time for activities that challenge them, energise them and take them outdoors.

Cold-water swimming, like many hobbies shared by families, offers a window into how they unwind away from official engagements — reminding the public that even future monarchs carve out space for the pursuits they love.
