Russia has threatened further strikes on Kyiv after launching large-scale missile and drone attacks, including the reported use of the Oreshnik hypersonic missile.

Russia has threatened further attacks on Kyiv after launching a wave of missile and drone strikes across Ukraine, including the reported use of the nuclear-capable Oreshnik missile.
Moscow also urged foreign nationals to leave the Ukrainian capital as tensions continue to escalate.

Moscow warning

According to Digi24, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow planned to carry out additional strikes targeting Ukrainian command centres and decision-making facilities.

The warning came one day after Russia reportedly used the hypersonic Oreshnik missile during attacks on Ukraine.

Lavrov’s comments followed several days of heavy bombardments targeting Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions.

Russian strikes also hit Odessa, Kharkiv, Poltava and Sumy, according to reports.

Massive assault

Ukrainian officials said Russia launched a large-scale combined missile and drone attack on Kyiv and surrounding areas overnight from Saturday into Sunday.

Residential buildings and infrastructure sites across the capital were damaged during the bombardment.

According to Digi24, at least four people were killed and around 60 others injured in the attack.

Ukrainian authorities said Russia used drones, ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and cluster munitions during the assault.

Ukraine appeals for support

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called for increased international support following the attacks.

“We call for additional defensive capabilities, including the protection of our airspace, investments in our defense industry, greater pressure on Russia,” he wrote on X.

According to Digi24, Sybiha also published images showing damage to Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry building in Kyiv.

The minister described the attack on the ministry as unprecedented since World War II.

Escalating pressure

Ukraine has repeatedly urged Western allies to provide additional air defence systems as Russian missile and drone attacks intensify.

The latest strikes come amid growing concern over Russia’s use of advanced missile systems and increasingly large aerial bombardments.

Kyiv and its allies have accused Moscow of deliberately targeting civilian areas and critical infrastructure during recent attacks.
