Finding a way to end a major international conflict usually requires hours of quiet diplomacy behind closed doors.
When the world watches two warring nations, any sign of dialogue can offer a glimmer of hope. Right now, however, the official channels seem completely frozen, reports TASS.
An absolute standstill
The prospect of peace talks between Moscow and Kyiv has hit a brick wall. According to a report by TASS, a top Russian diplomat recently confirmed that all formal communication regarding an end to the fighting has completely dried up.
The revealing remarks came during a recent media broadcast. Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, shared the bleak update during an interview with Vesti.
When asked about the status of potential peace agreements, Nebenzya painted a dark picture. “As far as I know, no negotiation process is currently underway, trilateral talks are not being conducted,” the Russian diplomat said.
Blaming the leadership
Moscow is placing the blame for this diplomatic freeze entirely on the other side. Nebenzya argued that the government in Kyiv is simply not interested in finding common ground.
Instead, the envoy leveled heavy accusations against Ukrainian officials. “Kiev is not ready to make any compromises, and war is a good source of income for them, especially for the leadership, and primarily for [Vladimir] Zelensky,” Nebenzya explained.
The Russian representative claimed that the ongoing conflict serves as a financial lifeline for top politicians. Because of this, he argued, there is no real motivation for Ukraine to sit down at the bargaining table.
Rejected demands
The diplomatic divide goes much deeper than just financial accusations. According to Nebenzya, the core issues that started the war remain completely unresolved because the Ukrainian government refuses to entertain Moscow’s demands.
“Zelensky has rejected seriously our conditions of return to where the conflict started, to its genesis, to the need to ensure security of both Ukraine and Russia, to the observance of the rights of his own people in his own country,” Nebenzya added.
Without a massive shift in attitude from Kyiv, Russia maintains that serious talks cannot happen. For now, the tables remain empty.
