Public events now always carry invisible risks.
When crowds gather to watch a spectacle, security teams work quietly in the background to stop terrible things from happening before anyone notices.
A devastating plan
Federal agents recently stopped a massive plot targeting the UFC Freedom 250 event. The mixed martial arts showcase took place on the South Lawn of the White House on Sunday.
According to the New York Post, the scheme involved at least 12 suspects spread across the United States. They followed a far-right accelerationist ideology and wanted to destroy American capitalism.
The attackers planned to fly explosive drones into the crowd. Officials said the explosions were meant to force terrified people outside the gates. A waiting sniper team would then shoot them.
A mother speaks up
The FBI uncovered the plan by infiltrating a private Signal chat. The investigation gained momentum when a concerned mother contacted local police about her teenage son.
Nineteen-year-old Tycen Proper was arrested in Ohio. His mother told the FBI she was worried about his “recent conduct, including firearms purchases and communicating with certain individuals online,” according to a federal affidavit.
Authorities noted how Proper funded his preparations. His father told police the young man spent $3,000 of his high school “graduation money” on gear including “a new shotgun, a rifle, ‘lots’ of ammunition, extra magazines, and plate carriers,” according to the New York Post.
Selecting the targets
The suspects initially connected on TikTok, but they soon moved their conversations to a private messaging app. Some participants claimed to be former military members.
Investigators found that the group wanted to assassinate several politicians. They specifically focused on Republican lawmakers like Senator Marsha Blackburn and Senator Jim Justice, hoping to make a violent political statement.
Proper allegedly shared photos of these politicians from a website that tracks donations to pro-Israel groups. One message stated that Blackburn was a target because she had “taken money from the Israel pro Israel lobby and supports them.”
More arrests expected
Proper confessed to investigators on June 11 that he helped plan the terrifying attack. He simply stated the group wanted to “jumpstart” a revolution.
The suspects planned to meet in Virginia before driving to Washington to launch the drones. At least five people have been arrested so far.
Sources told the New York Post that more arrests are possible soon. Authorities are currently preparing additional search warrants, hoping to track down anyone else involved in the plot.
