Former RT France chief Xenia Fedorova has become a regular commentator on French conservative media, prompting concerns about the continued spread of pro-Kremlin narratives despite EU sanctions.

The former head of RT France has become a regular commentator on some of France’s largest conservative media outlets, sparking concerns among lawmakers and analysts over the spread of pro-Kremlin narratives.
Her growing visibility comes as France prepares for its 2027 presidential election and debates how to counter foreign influence campaigns.

New platform

According to Politico, Xenia Fedorova, the former president of RT France, has become a frequent guest on CNews television and Europe 1 radio.

RT France was shut down following European Union sanctions imposed after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Despite the broadcaster’s closure, Politico reported that Fedorova remains an influential media figure in France.

She regularly comments on issues including Ukraine, NATO and European security.

Scrutiny grows

Several French politicians have raised concerns about her appearances.

According to Politico, Valérie Hayer, a close ally of French President Emmanuel Macron and leader of the Renew group in the European Parliament, filed a complaint with France’s broadcasting regulator following one of Fedorova’s television appearances.

Natalia Pouzyreff, another Renew lawmaker, also criticised her commentary.

“The crucial point is that Xenia Fedorova’s remarks almost touch on matters of national security; they bear the unmistakable mark of the Kremlin,” Pouzyreff told Politico.

RT France legacy

According to Politico, Fedorova previously worked closely with RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan and helped build RT France following its launch in 2017.

The outlet never achieved mass audiences but gained visibility during major political events, including the Yellow Vest protests.

French authorities had long accused RT and other Russian state media organisations of acting as instruments of influence rather than independent news outlets.

During a 2017 press conference alongside Vladimir Putin, Macron famously accused RT and Sputnik of spreading false information during the French election campaign.

Election concerns

Analysts told Politico that Fedorova’s continued presence highlights the limitations of sanctions aimed at Russian state media.

While RT France no longer broadcasts, critics argue that similar narratives can still reach mainstream audiences through individual commentators.

According to Politico, some observers believe her influence has grown within media outlets owned by conservative businessman Vincent Bolloré.

French authorities have pledged to strengthen efforts against foreign interference ahead of the 2027 presidential election, but no evidence has emerged that Fedorova is directly funded by the Kremlin.
