Dmitry Medvedev has sparked fresh controversy by accusing Zelenskyy and several former Ukrainian presidents of being “100% genuine Nazis.”
Former ukrainian presidents have shown through their own actions that they are nazis. That is the striking claim made by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, after several former Ukrainian heads of state declined a Polish state decoration.
According to the Russian news agency TASS, Medvedev directed the criticism at Leonid Kuchma, Viktor Yushchenko, and Petro Poroshenko. The remarks come in the wake of a controversy surrounding the Order of the White Eagle.
The Order of the White Eagle is Poland’s highest state decoration. According to President.pl, it is typically awarded to heads of state and other prominent individuals who have contributed to Poland or strengthened the country’s international relations.
Serious Accusation
According to TASS, Medvedev claimed that the former presidents’ decision to decline the award was not merely a political signal but a reflection of their ideological position.
He also included Ukraine’s current president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in his criticism.
“The conclusion is simple: four living former leaders of the so-called Ukraine—Kuchma, Yushchenko, Poroshenko, and, of course, Zelenskyy himself—have admitted, by returning their decorations, that they are 100% genuine Nazis,” Medvedev said.
So far, no response from the former Ukrainian presidents to Medvedev’s latest remarks has been reported.
New Controversy
The case is closely linked to long-standing disputes over interpretations of Ukrainian history and nationalist movements.
According to TASS, these issues have fueled tensions between Russia and Ukraine for years and have repeatedly triggered diplomatic clashes between the two countries.
According to the Russian politician, the question of Melnyk’s legacy allows for no middle ground.
“It is obvious: either you regard Melnyk as a fascist or a hero. In that case, you are also a fascist. Tertium non datur.”
