Regional militaries need to rethink their current positioning.

When borders shift and regional tensions flare, military strategists must constantly plan for the absolute worst case scenario.

Speculation about potential global clashes often conjures images of endless, grueling campaigns that drag on for decades.

Yet, a prominent security analyst believes a modern clash on Europe’s edge would shatter all expectations about time.

One intense week

The ongoing war in Ukraine has forced neighboring nations to look closely at their own security. For years, the terrifying prospect of a direct Russian assault on NATO territory has dominated defense discussions.

According to a report by WP Wiadomości, journalist Patrycjusz Wyżga recently sat down with defense expert Zbigniew Parafianowicz on the program Didaskalia. The expert was blunt about the timeline of a potential clash.

“It won’t be an eight-year war; everything will be decided within a week, no longer,” Parafianowicz stated during the interview.

A swift initial strike could change the regional landscape in an instant. If Western forces fail to hold the line immediately, the aftermath will be painful and slow.

Moving the line

“If the Russians manage to occupy a village, a small town, or a border area in a Baltic state, then those eight years will be the time for negotiations on what to do about it,” Parafianowicz explained to the outlet.

To counter this threat, the expert argues that regional militaries need to rethink their current positioning. Keeping forces static could prove disastrous when speed is everything.

Parafianowicz suggested that the Polish military should be active and stationed outside its own borders, pointing specifically to Lithuania. Poland already has significant economic interests there. For instance, the energy giant Orlen operates as a massive taxpayer in the region. Adding a military presence to protect these utilities makes strategic sense.

Protecting the economy

The ultimate goal is simple. Keep any potential battlefield as far away from domestic soil as possible. National survival depends entirely on keeping the home economy safe while alliances hold the perimeter.

“It is in Poland’s interest to wage war outside of Poland. So that Poland’s GDP can be generated peacefully, without external threats,” Parafianowicz emphasized.
