The POTUS has a quite controversial new take.
Plans for one of the largest public events marking America’s 250th anniversary are changing shape before the festivities have even begun.
Several musicians originally booked to perform at a massive celebration on Washington’s National Mall have withdrawn from the event, prompting organizers to place Donald Trump himself at the center of the opening ceremony.
President is now expected to headline the launch of the multi-day celebration next month.
Star Departures Raise Questions
Organizers behind the Great American State Fair had envisioned a large-scale entertainment program featuring musical performances, state exhibitions, rides and attractions stretching from the US Capitol to the Washington Monument.
Recent weeks have brought a growing list of artist cancellations.
Rock singer Bret Michaels became the latest performer to withdraw after concluding that the event no longer matched the nonpartisan celebration he originally believed it to be.
Departure marked the fifth cancellation from the concert lineup.
Organizers have not publicly provided detailed explanations for the withdrawals.
Trump Moves to the Front of the Stage
Following the exits, Freedom 250 announced that Trump will now personally launch the anniversary celebrations.
Group wrote on social media that the president would “personally kick off this historic celebration.”
Move places Trump at the center of an event intended to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence.
Freedom 250 was established through a partnership involving the White House and federal agencies to coordinate nationwide anniversary events.
President Suggests Concerts May Not Be Needed
Trump responded to the developments on his Truth Social platform, arguing that public interest in him may outweigh interest in the musical acts that have withdrawn.
“The fact is that I am, according to many, the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World,” Trump wrote.
President continued by claiming that he attracts “much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime” and “does so without a guitar.”
Comments also hinted that organizers may move away from the original concert-focused concept.
Rally Could Replace Performances
Trump revealed that he has instructed aides to examine an alternative approach centered on a large public gathering.
“I am ordering my Representatives to look at the feasibility of doing an AMERICA IS BACK Rally,” he wrote.
Such a shift would significantly alter the tone of an event originally promoted as a broad national celebration featuring entertainment from across the country.
Great American State Fair is scheduled to run from June 25 through July 10 and remains one of the most ambitious projects tied to America’s semiquincentennial celebrations.
Questions now remain over whether music will remain the main attraction—or whether the spotlight will belong almost entirely to the president himself.
