US President Donald Trump announced Monday that the United States will send new weapons to Ukraine, less than a week after his administration suspended several high-profile arms deliveries.

“We’re going to have to send more weapons, mainly defensive weapons,” Trump said, while also voicing strong dissatisfaction with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Last week, the White House confirmed that certain weapons shipments to Ukraine were being put on hold.

The decision reportedly included suspending deliveries of Patriot air defense systems, Hellfire missiles, and precision-guided artillery rounds.

At the time, the administration cited concerns about depleting US ammunition reserves, saying the move was meant to prioritize American national security.

“This decision was made to put America’s interests first,” a White House spokesperson stated, as cited by Digi24.

The suspension drew criticism from Kyiv and some US allies, with fears that the delay could weaken Ukraine’s defenses as the war enters its third year.

Despite last week’s halt, the US remains Ukraine’s largest military supporter since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.

Billions of dollars’ worth of weapons, training, and intelligence support have been provided under both the Biden and Trump administrations.

Sources familiar with the matter told Politico that the pause in aid may have been a temporary tactic to review inventory levels or signal diplomatic pressure.
