The remarks were made during a high-profile appearance and have since overshadowed the economic focus of the event.

Speech in detroit

According to UNILAD, Trump was speaking at the Detroit Economic Club in Michigan on Tuesday, January 13. Midway through his address, he began talking about his tendency to speak without relying on prepared remarks.

“You know, when you go up here, you take a big chance. Especially me because I go off teleprompter about 80% of the time,” Trump told the audience. He then added: “But isn’t it nice to have a president that can go off teleprompter, don’t you think?”

After some laughter from the crowd, Trump shifted his focus to former president Joe Biden.

Mocking impression

Trump referred to Biden’s speeches, saying: “Remember the speeches Joe would make? First of all, they’d last a matter of seconds, you know.”

He went on to claim Biden would “always cough before a speech,” before coughing himself while imitating him. Trump also described one speech in which Biden was allegedly “high as a kite” and “floating.”

“Remember he was high as a kite? He was floating,” Trump said. “He was up there way up… that was a bad speech. But uh, hey, he got through it, you know. He got through it. If you call it getting through it.”

Online reaction

While Trump appeared amused by his impression, the response online was overwhelmingly negative. A clip of the moment shared on Reddit prompted a wave of criticism.

One user wrote: “What an absolute disgrace of a human being who gave other horrible humans the excuse to be the most vile version of humankind.”

Another commented: “I am so fearful of todays generation of kids and teenagers who will think that this behavior is totally normal for a president. God he has made unprecedented damages to our country and its people.”

A third said: “He sounds like the moron he is,” while another added: “There is no bottom to this guy’s depravity.”

UNILAD reported that both the White House and Joe Biden’s office were contacted for comment.

Earlier confrontation

The controversial remarks came just hours after Trump visited a Ford factory. During that appearance, an employee heckled him, calling him a “pedophile protector.”

Trump responded by making an obscene gesture. The employee was later fired, though thousands of dollars were subsequently raised for him through online fundraising.
