Donald Trump has drawn criticism after suggesting he could remain US president for nearly a decade, raising questions about constitutional limits. The comment, made at a public event, quickly circulated online and triggered debate.

The remarks come as scrutiny of the president’s health and rhetoric continues.

Controversial comment

According to The Express, Trump made the statement during a business summit on Monday while discussing tax policies.

Referring to potential financial benefits after leaving office, he said: “When I get out of office in, let’s say, eight or nine years from now, I’ll be able to use it. I’ll be able to use it myself.”

The comment prompted concern among some observers, who pointed to the US Constitution’s 22nd Amendment, which limits presidents to two terms.

Clips of the moment spread rapidly on social media, drawing strong reactions from critics.

Public reaction

Some users expressed alarm at the implications of Trump’s words.

“This is not a joke and I don’t find it funny,” one X user wrote.

Another added: “People laughing at this ‘joke’ disgusts me the most!”

The backlash reflects ongoing tensions surrounding political norms and presidential powers in the United States.

Health claims

During the same appearance, Trump addressed questions about his physical and mental fitness.

He argued that candidates for high office should undergo cognitive testing and highlighted his own results.

“Anybody running for president or vice president, should take a cognitive test. And no president has ever taken one except me. I’ve taken three of them, and I’ve aced each one, one in the first administration, two over here,” he said.

He also criticised former President Joe Biden, adding: “How do you think Biden would have done? I don’t think… he might not have gotten that first question right.”

Ongoing scrutiny

Trump has recently faced renewed questions about his health, partly linked to a series of late-night social media posts.

Among them was an AI-generated image showing Trump alongside JD Vance and Marco Rubio in a redesigned Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

The proposed redesign, shared online, depicted the site with a modified appearance, adding to debate over the president’s messaging and public conduct.
