What is happening?

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski confirmed that 19 Russian drones, that entered Polish airspace last week, were capable of carrying explosives but arrived unarmed and non-functional.

“Russia was trying to test us without starting a war,” Sikorski told The Guardian during a visit to Kyiv.

Minimal damage, no casualties

Despite the scale of the incursion, no one was injured, and damage to property was minor.

Sikorski noted that, by Ukrainian standards, the mission would be considered a “100% success” for Poland’s defenses.

Critics pointed out that most of the drones weren’t intercepted.

Sikorski defended the response, arguing that the drones missed their targets and didn’t pose a lethal threat, though only three or four were reportedly shot down.

NATO reinforces Eastern flank

In response, NATO announced an increase in aircraft deployment along its eastern border to deter and defend against future drone intrusions, signalling heightened vigilance in the region.

New threat sparks temporary panic

Days later, fresh drone threats triggered another scramble of Polish and NATO aircraft.

Lublin Airport (Poland) was closed and civilians received emergency alerts, though no incursion occurred this time.

Sikorski warned that Poland’s response would have been “much tougher” had there been casualties.

“With an aggressor and a liar like Putin, only the toughest countermeasures work,” he said.

Tusk: Poland nearing military conflict

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated the drone raid brought Poland “closer to war than at any time since World War II.”

Sikorski rejects Trump’s “mistake” claim

Responding to Donald Trump’s suggestion that the drone raid could have been accidental.

Sikorski said: “Nineteen errors in one night, in seven hours? I don’t think so.”

Two F-16s were scrambled in response, highlighting how NATO’s eastern edge is increasingly under pressure.

Envoy: Don’t pressure Trump

Speaking via video to a Kyiv conference, Trump claimed the war would never have started under his leadership.

His envoy, Keith Kellogg, who was also in Kiyv, warned Europe not to push Trump too hard, saying he reacts poorly to being pressured.

The “worst” position to put him in

“One piece of advice I would give to anyone working with President Trump is to not put him in a situation where he thinks he’s being used, because that’s probably the worst position you can be in with him,” Kellogg said.

He did, however, confirm that Trump is growing increasingly frustrated with Putin.
