Hundreds of “Better Weather Fix Elixir” bottles are being recalled in the U.S. following the discovery of undeclared kratom derivative.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) this week issued a health warning against the mood shot Better Weather Fix Elixir, which according to the agency, contains mitragynine and mitragynine pseudoindoxyl without the substances being listed on the label. Both are extracted from the kratom plant and act as opioids in the brain.
Manufacturer Better Weather Actives LLC voluntarily recalled all lots of the 15 ml bottle on May 28, 2026. This action follows an earlier recall by distributor XD Investments LLC, which had already withdrawn approximately 448 boxes of all flavor variants. The products were sold between November 9, 2025, and March 28, 2026, via online stores xdeor.com and masensupplements.com, Fox 11 Los Angeles reports.
An Opioid Disguised as a Mood Shot
Kratom originates from the Southeast Asian tree Mitragyna speciosa. The active substance mitragynine binds to the same μ-opioid receptors in the brain as morphine and heroin, and mitragynine pseudoindoxyl is a more potent variant of the same substance type.
The FDA describes mitragynine pseudoindoxyl as a stronger derivative of kratom and warns of a wide range of possible side effects: nausea, vomiting, rapid heart rate, palpitations, hallucinations, sedation, anxiety, and unconsciousness. The agency also points out that ingestion can suppress breathing to a potentially fatal extent, and that the substances can lead to addiction with severe opioid withdrawal symptoms.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) describes kratom substances as having classic opioid effects, including respiratory depression that can lead to death.
Risk Amplified by Other Medications
The danger lies in consumers not knowing what they were drinking — the kratom derivative content was not declared. The FDA emphasizes in the parallel recall that the risk increases if the products are combined with other medications, prescribed or illicit, and that in the worst case, this can lead to severe or fatal physiological effects.
Neither Better Weather Actives nor XD Investments had received reports of specific adverse effects when the recall was announced. Consumers are urged to discontinue use and return the product to the place of purchase.
