Ukraine’s president says newly obtained Russian military documents reveal setbacks on the battlefield.
At the same time, Kyiv warns that Moscow is preparing to escalate its campaign with more troops and new offensives, reports Onet.
Volodymyr Zelensky said the materials, described as internal papers from Russia’s General Staff, indicate that occupation forces have not achieved their assigned objectives. According to Onet, the Ukrainian leader used the findings to argue that Moscow is struggling militarily despite continuing its war effort.
He added that the documents show a gap between political expectations in Russia and the realities faced by its forces. Still, Kyiv believes this will not lead to a slowdown in hostilities.
Ukraine sees the developments as a sign that pressure must be maintained, both on the battlefield and through international alliances.
Mounting pressure
Zelensky said Russia is preparing additional offensive operations and intends to boost troop numbers through expanded mobilization. Kyiv, in turn, is planning to intensify its use of drones along the front.
Ukraine is also pushing for tougher sanctions, particularly targeting Russia’s arms production and energy revenues, which it views as key to sustaining the war.
“We have specific documents from the Russian General Staff confirming that the occupiers themselves admit their inability to fulfill the tasks assigned by their political leadership. Despite this, the Russian authorities are planning further offensive operations and are preparing to engage more troops, in particular by expanding mobilization processes in Russia,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram.
Wider concerns
Zelensky also indicated that Ukraine will brief its international partners on what it sees as Russia’s broader strategic intentions. These include potential operations that could affect NATO countries and efforts to draw Belarus more deeply into the conflict.
Such warnings point to the possibility of rising regional tensions beyond Ukraine’s borders. Kyiv is urging allies to remain vigilant and coordinated in response.
The situation underscores a continuing cycle: battlefield difficulties for Russia alongside signs of further escalation, raising concerns among Ukraine and its Western partners.
