Historic upsets in Georgia and South Carolina sets up massive election night for Democrats

Major upsets in key battleground states deliver a sweeping, record-breaking night for the Democrats.

BREAKING: The Democratic Party is on the verge of an historic night!

That much is clear with many races still to be called.

Here is some more breaking news about projections that will shape American politics over the next two years.

Chris Pappas is the first openly gay man to win the Senate seat in New Hampshire.

Democrat Chris Pappas stopped Republican John E. Sununu from taking back his old seat in New Hampshire by winning the Senate seat. The seat was open after Democratic incumbent Jeanne Shaheen stepped down. Sununu served in the Senate from 2003 to 2009.

Chris Pappas, who is openly gay, won this race with the help of the LGBTQ+ community, with 92% of the votes going to Pappas, according to NBC News.

In the end, Pappas won in a rout, claiming roughly two-thirds of voters under age 30 and women under age 45, and 59% of independents.

The governor’s race in Georgia just became historic

Keisha Lance Bottoms, the former mayor of Atlanta, just pulled off a huge upset in the governor’s race in Georgia as she beat out Republican Rick Jackson.

The win is remarkable, as Lance Bottoms is not only the first female governor in the state, but she will also be the first female and African American governor anywhere — not just in Georgia.

A ‘stunning, stunning’ victory for the Democrats in South Carolina

Democrat Annie Andrews started her campaign for senator in South Carolina as an underdog. She was up against the beloved sister of the late Lindsey Graham, Darline Graham. Political expert Steve Kornacki calls this win a “stunning, stunning victory for the Democrats.”

But it soon turned out that Darline Graham seemed way out of her element and was in deep trouble, even though Donald Trump hand-picked her as a candidate.

She also appeared woefully unprepared in her debates against Andrews, where she even said that she was “not that informed on national security.” That had been one of her brother’s most important qualities as a senator and close ally of Trump.

According to NBC News, 63% of people in South Carolina say Republican Darline Graham does not have the right experience to serve.
