Putin orders crackdown to protect election results

Officials say safeguarding the voting process is a priority as concerns grow over potential external influence.

President Vladimir Putin has instructed Russia’s Central Election Commission to focus closely on election security, according to state news agency TASS.

Speaking to a newly formed lineup of the commission, Putin called for coordination with law enforcement and security agencies.

According to TASS, he specifically urged continuous contact with the Interior Ministry, the National Guard, and other relevant bodies.

Security focus

“I ask you to pay special attention to security issues, to be in constant contact with the Interior Ministry, [Russia’s National Guard] Rosgvardiya, and other agencies,” the president said.

The directive highlights Moscow’s concern over protecting the integrity of the electoral process.

According to TASS, Putin stressed that preventing interference remains a key objective for authorities.

He warned against any attempts to disrupt voting or influence results.

Warning issued

“No one, no external forces should get a single chance to interfere, influence the course and even more so the outcome of the popular vote. We will stop any attempts to use the elections to destabilize society. The relevant tasks have been assigned to the law enforcement agencies. I hope that the election commission staff will ensure strict compliance with the requirements of the law, show an example of objectivity, honesty and professionalism.”

According to TASS, the president said law enforcement agencies have already been tasked with countering potential threats.

He also called on election officials to uphold legal standards and demonstrate professionalism throughout the process.
