A tense series of exchanges inside the Oval Office has spilled over onto social media.
Covering the White House is rarely a quiet assignment. Every administration brings its own share of tension, but the room can turn into a battlefield in seconds. When questions touch a raw nerve, the cameras catch every spark.
That friction flared into an open row on Tuesday inside the Oval Office during an announcement of a $25 million fraud whistleblower program that pays tipsters up to $30,000 for recovering public money.
The policy news was quickly eclipsed by multiple clashes between Donald Trump and Andrew Feinberg, a White House correspondent for The Independent.
Tempers boil over
Early in the media availability, Trump pointed at Feinberg and warned him bluntly: “Hey! I don’t know who the hell you are, but you better be careful”.
The tension escalated minutes later when Feinberg pressed administration officials on the whistleblower rewards and then attempted to ask a question regarding golf courses.
Trump cut him off immediately. “Quiet, quiet!” Trump said, scolding the reporter. “What’s wrong with you? Are you a sick person? I actually think there’s something wrong with you”.
Feinberg’s response to Vance
The argument did not end at the door. Later that day, Vice President JD Vance posted video of the clash on X, writing that Trump had eviscerated an “imbecile” reporter.
Feinberg wasted no time answering back. Addressing the vice president directly on X, he wrote, “Mr. Vice President, if you’re going to insult me at least have the guts to tag my account”.
Feinberg also contested Trump’s claim of not knowing who he was, noting in a separate post that he had told the president “exactly who” he was only five minutes before the argument began.
At 80, Trump has a well-documented habit of confronting the media, regularly trading insults with reporters who challenge his statements or record. For the press corps, Tuesday was another sharp reminder of that dynamic.
