As the Trump administration keeps putting its foot on the pedal regarding strict immigration policies in the US, Trump found time to revel in the victory achieved by a German far-right political party.
As reported on Monday, the extreme far-right German political party Alternative for Germany (AfD) won a shocking victory in a state election just outside of Berlin.
The news has made waves as leaders in and around Germany are afraid of what this might entail for the future of Germany and Europe.
The news has also finally been noticed by the President of the United States of America. He is rather pleased.
Trump is ecstatic
President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to celebrate the victory for the AfD. He especially praised the party’s strict immigration policies.
“Wow! The Populist Party in Germany just had a really big night. They finally got tired of the absolutely horrible immigration rules and regulations which have hurt Germany so badly,” Trump posted.
He also added: “THEY ARE ON THE RISE, and not going to take it anymore!”
The endorsement came right after the AfD received 43.8 percent of the vote in the Saxony-Anhalt state election. The far-right political party doubled its previous percentage total.
Panic all over Europe
Chancellor of Germany and leader of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU), Friedrich Merz, called the night “the heaviest electoral defeat the (CDU party) has suffered in years, in decades” and admitted he felt “deeply shocked” by the election outcome.
“Naturally, this will have to have consequences,” Merz said to reporters the following morning according to the Daily Mail.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk criticized those celebrating the outcome, reminding them of Germany’s history. Meanwhile, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez warned that an “extremist threat” was growing worldwide.
AfD wants a seat at the table
While the victory was vital for the future of AfD, the party fell three seats short of an absolute majority, which is significant as all the other political parties in Germany have refused to work with the AfD.
The party’s co-chairwoman Alice Weidel still insisted that voters gave her team “a very clear mandate to govern here.” She added, “We will control our borders. We will deport all those required to leave the country and all criminals.”
