Trump told his supporters that he should not be blamed if Democrats take both chambers of Congress.
Even though President Donald Trump publicly says that polls showing a potentially disastrous election for the Republican Party in the midterm elections are “fake news,” there is no doubt that he gets internal polling that is also quite bad.
Otherwise, Trump would not mention a potentially bad outcome for his party so much during his midterm blitz speeches he is delivering all over the country.
This weekend in Kentucky, he debuted a new excuse for potentially losing both chambers of Congress to the Democratic Party.
Trump says that voters should not blame him
At one point during the speech in Kentucky on Friday, Trump laid the groundwork to argue that he is not to be blamed if the current surveys are correct and the Republican Party is in for a disastrous midterm election.
“I don’t need to do this. I already won. Somebody said, ‘Good luck with the election.’ I said, ‘No, I already won.’ I don’t need to do this,” Trump said to a stunned crowd.
It is clear that the dire outlook for his party is getting to Trump. Meanwhile, Trump is delivering all these speeches in battleground states to try to salvage his candidates’ elections, but it is clear that he has no interest in actually promoting any of these candidates during his speeches, only himself.
So instead, he is signaling to his crowd and supporters that it will not be his fault if a blue wave arrives in two weeks amid inflation, high fuel prices, and a costly war.
A bizarre comment on fired federal workers’ wives
This snippet from Trump’s speech in Kentucky was not the only noteworthy thing he said in the Bluegrass State.
Trump’s speech suddenly turned weirdly sexual when he began to talk about the hundreds of thousands of federal workers he laid off at the start of his second term as president.
“Many of these people have gone out, gotten private sector jobs, a job they like much more. Their wife likes them much more, or their husband. They get much more turned on by the fact the husband has a better job. They become almost violent in their love,” Trump said to scattered laughs from the befuddled crowd.
This comment comes on the back of how Trump leaned on the conservative “Project 2025” doctrine to shrink agencies, increase presidential power, and replace civil servants with MAGA loyalists.
The Trump administration then tapped billionaire Elon Musk to create the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to optimize the federal government and carry out mass layoffs.
The New York Times estimates that a total of 300,000 federal employees were laid off last year. But according to Trump, they are now in a much more vibrant relationship with their wives because of it.
