It’s the first time in the organizations 116 year existence, the sitting president is not invited.
What is happening?

President Donald Trump will not be invited to the national convention of the NAACP happening in July, the organization announced Monday.
First time ever

Organizations aren’t required to invite the sitting president, but this is the first time in the 116 years the NAACP has existed, that the sitting president is not invited to the convention.
Working against the mission

At a press conference, NAACP President, Derrick Johnson, explained that the reason behind the move is that Trump is working against the mission of the NAACP.

“Our mission is to advance civil rights, and the current president has made clear that his mission is to eliminate civil rights,” Johnson said in a statement, emphazising the decision had nothing to do with political party.
Multiple lawsuits

NAACP has filed several lawsuits against Turmp in recent months.
For example, the group sued to stop the Departmen of Education from withholding federal money for schools that did not end their programs for diversity, inclusion and equity.
Republican President as speaker

As an example of Presidents from both sides of the political arena being invited, Republican President George W. Bush even addressed the NAACP convention in 2006.
This happened after months of criticism of his administrations handling of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
What is the NAACP?

NAACP is short for National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
It was founded in 1909 after a deadly riot wrecked havoc in the city of Springfield.
