Belarus is once again reinforcing its border with Ukraine by deploying T-72B tanks.
Shifting Focus Away from Russia
Recent social media posts have surfaced showing the transport of these tanks heading southward, a move that raises concerns amid ongoing tensions in the region.
In mid-August, Belarus attempted to divert the attention of the Ukrainian military by sending substantial military equipment to the border, including Polonez and Iskander missile systems, according to WP.
This was part of a strategy to shift focus away from the Russian region of Kursk. Shortly thereafter, the Belarusian government began to offload some of its military stock, transferring valuable artillery systems to Russia, including the BM-30 Smerch rocket systems.
Sending T-72B Tanks to its Border
Now, Belarus has resumed sending T-72B tanks to its border with Ukraine. Images shared on social media, particularly from the profile @front_ukrainian, reveal that multiple tanks are being transported by rail, although the exact number reaching the border remains unclear.
Observers note at least a dozen tanks visible in the photos.
The T-72B, a widely recognized and utilized tank originally from the Soviet era, is known for its versatility and reliability on the battlefield. Equipped with a V-84-1 engine producing 840 horsepower, the T-72B can reach speeds of up to 60 km/h on paved roads and 35-45 km/h in rough terrain.
Its design allows it to navigate slopes of up to 30 degrees and cross water obstacles of 1.2 meters deep without preparation, or up to 5 meters with proper equipment.
Armed with a 125 mm 2A46M gun, the T-72B can fire various munitions, including the AT-11 anti-tank guided missiles, effective at ranges of up to 4 km.
Additionally, the tank is fitted with a 7.62 mm PKT machine gun and a 12.7 mm NSVT anti-aircraft machine gun, making it capable of engaging both armored units and enemy infantry effectively.
