Kremlin officials claim they cannot violate the energy ceasefire because Moscow lacks details, while Russian missiles continue hitting Ukrainian infrastructure.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov claimed that Moscow has not received details regarding an energy ceasefire announced by United States President Donald Trump. According to United24 Media, Russian officials argue they cannot violate an agreement that lacks definitions. Speaking to state media on October 14, Peskov maintained that Moscow operates without information about the conditions.

The Russian government rejects accusations that it violated the arrangement to protect infrastructure. Addressing the controversy, Peskov stated, “The energy ceasefire proposed by Trump has not been specified, so it cannot be claimed that Russia is failing to comply with it.” The spokesperson added that diplomatic work in this direction remains ongoing between the parties.

These remarks followed criticism from Ukrainian officials regarding military aggression. Kyiv authorities accused the Russian military of continuing strikes against civilian energy networks. These attacks occurred despite Trump announcing a pause in targeting such facilities.

Ukraine observes the pause while Russia strikes

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that his military observed the ceasefire conditions following the announcement. For two days, Kyiv refrained from launching strikes targeting Russian oil refineries and other energy facilities. However, the Ukrainian leader noted that Moscow ignored the initiative and continued attacking civilian infrastructure.

Expressing frustration with the failure, Zelenskyy condemned the unbalanced adherence to the agreement. Highlighting this contrast, Zelenskyy stated, “Ukraine has not carried out strikes on Russian oil refineries or the energy sector in general for the two days since the American President announced an energy ceasefire.” He concluded by noting that the Russian military did not heed the American president.

The collapse of the ceasefire became apparent during an aerial bombardment on October 14. Russian forces launched a missile attack designed to cripple power generation capabilities. This assault targeted energy infrastructure located throughout Kharkiv and the surrounding region.

Devastating impacts on Ukrainian infrastructure

The capital suffered damage during the barrage of Russian ballistic missiles. During this assault, enemy forces struck all three combined heat and power plants operating within Kyiv. These facilities play an essential role in maintaining living conditions for millions of residents.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi confirmed the destruction of energy facilities across multiple regions. He reported that ballistic missiles bypassed defensive systems to hit infrastructure in both Kyiv and Kharkiv. The explosions caused structural damage to the plants and disrupted utility services.
