A wave of Manipulation
Armenia is facing a massive wave of online manipulation. A pro-Russian bot network is targeting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan long before the June 7, 2026, parliamentary elections.
The Ukrainian newspaper Meduza cited by O2 reported that this digital assault started a staggering 243 days before the vote. This marks an unusually early strike for Moscow.
More than 340 fake videos are currently flooding social media platforms. Meduza noted this number dwarfs recent Russian interference campaigns in Moldova, Germany, and the US.
A new digital target
The attackers are using entirely new tactics to smear the political leader. For the first time, rumors about the prime minister and his failing health are a central focus.
The outlet explained that when old accusations about corruption fail, attackers target personal issues. Pashinyan and his office quickly dismissed these medical rumors.
The propaganda network also claims the government wants to start a massive conflict. They heavily push the false narrative that Armenia is preparing for a military showdown with Russia.
Faking a conflict
Fake videos on this specific topic have flooded the X website since early March. One fabricated clip claimed that NATO instructors had already arrived in the country ready for war.
That same video falsely stated the prime minister plans to “provoke a military conflict with Russia” right after the elections.
Local journalists quickly spotted the coordinated bot behavior. They found identical news structures, matching broadcast accounts, and repetitive fake sources across the network.
A dark warning
The diplomatic tension reached the very top of the Russian government. President Vladimir Putin recently addressed the small nation’s desire to join the European Union.
“Regarding Armenia’s plans to join the European Union, this, of course, requires special consideration,” Putin said.
He then delivered a chilling comparison to the ongoing devastation next door following a recent visit by the Ukrainian president to Yerevan.
“We are currently experiencing everything that is happening in Ukraine. And where did it all begin? With Ukraine’s accession or attempt to join the EU,” he said.
