According to the chief, they only include verified losses in the tally.

Ukraine’s drone war has quietly moved from a tactical edge to the engine behind most Russian infantry losses.

A sharp uptick in Russian casualties over the past week suggests that shift is accelerating, with Ukraine’s dedicated drone branch reporting significantly higher kill and wound counts than at the same point only a month ago.

Between October 1 and 5, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) killed or wounded 2,699 Russian soldiers, a 39.7% rise on the 1,931 counted during the same five days of September, and 76.5% above the 1,529 recorded in early August.

The figures were released by Robert “Magyar” Brovdi, commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, and reflect only kills and injuries confirmed through DELTA, Ukraine’s battlefield situational awareness platform.

“No fantasies, rumours or guesses, solely accounting, mathematics and analysis of verified losses,” Brovdi wrote.

The figures have not been independently verified.

Donetsk axis drives the surge

The biggest jump was recorded along the Dobropillia-Pokrovsk axis in the eastern Donetsk region, where Ukraine’s 1st Azov Corps of the National Guard operates.

USF crews there logged 1,268 Russian killed or wounded in the first five days of October, against 884 in the same window in September, a rise of about 43%.

Brovdi tied the escalation to a step-up in the pace and density of Russian assaults, which he linked to a covert mobilization pushing more Russian infantry into the front line.

More assaults mean more targets within reach of first-person-view drones, interceptors and strike bombers.

Only one slice of the battlefield

The count covers one branch of Ukraine’s forces, not the whole front.

Brovdi stressed that the DELTA figures leave out casualties inflicted by other units of Ukraine’s defense forces, so the drone-attributable total is almost certainly higher once brigades and territorial defense teams are added.

Ukraine’s General Staff reported on October 7 that Russia had lost 551,876 operational-tactical UAVs of its own since the February 2022 invasion, alongside roughly 1.55 million personnel.

The General Staff put Russian personnel losses over the previous 24 hours at 1,690. The totals are Ukrainian figures and are not independently confirmed.
