Peskov complained about this strict approach.

When major global powers stop speaking to one another, the silence can stretch on for years.

But behind closed doors, quiet conversations often continue, driven by the promise of future money and resources.

The waiting game

Now, the Kremlin is expressing frustration over a stalled timeline. Washington is refusing to launch new joint business projects while the fighting in Eastern Europe continues, setting up a diplomatic standoff.

Russian leaders want to start working together immediately. They believe both nations are currently missing out on massive financial windfalls.

According to The Moscow Times cited by Onet, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov recently discussed these ongoing conversations. He noted that his government regularly proposes lucrative ventures that would bring “great benefits to both Russia and America.”

Peace before profit

The American government is standing completely firm. Negotiators are putting any major economic partnership on ice until the conflict in Ukraine is fully resolved.

Peskov complained about this strict approach. During a recent briefing, he made it clear that Moscow wants to move forward with the money-making plans right away.

“Kirill Dmitriev continues to discuss economic issues [with the US authorities]. Unfortunately, the Americans, despite the obvious benefits, continue to link this entire process to settling the situation in Ukraine, meaning they claim that settlement must occur first, and only then the project must be implemented,” Peskov told reporters.

Still, the Kremlin sees value in talking. Peskov noted that keeping the diplomatic channel open remains “a very positive process,” even though Russian authorities believe “actions in their own favor” should happen without stopping the current war.

Constructive meetings

High-level discussions have actually heated up over the past week. Kirill Dmitriev, a special envoy for Vladimir Putin, traveled to Washington to meet with American officials, according to Reuters.

The two sides spent time exploring ways to end the fighting. They also touched on several joint energy ventures that could begin once the war finally concludes.

These talks happened just days after President Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in New York. Dmitriev praised his subsequent conversations with the American team, describing them as “constructive.”

CNN later shed more light on the guest list. Citing unnamed sources, the network reported that Dmitriev met directly with Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, alongside the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, on September 24. They discussed bilateral cooperation and ways to end the conflict.
