Civilians face daily dangers, and cities remain under constant threat. Even as diplomats work on a peace plan, the fighting shows no sign of stopping. On Saturday morning, Russia launched a wave of missile and drone attacks on Kiev and other regions of Ukraine, reports Digi24.

Nearly a Third of the Capital Without Heat

At least 19 people were injured, including two children. Eleven of them were hospitalized. In Kiev’s Dniprovskyi district, a drone hit an 18-story building. A fire broke out on the third floor, and a person might be trapped under the rubble on the fifth floor.

Emergency teams are searching for survivors. In the same district, debris struck a 25-story residential building, causing a fire on the first and second floors. A warehouse was also hit.

Kiev’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said that fires had broken out across the capital after overnight shelling. Smoke covered the city, though air pollution levels remained low. Later, a car service station caught fire in the Holosivskyi district. Nearly a third of the capital is without heat, and some areas have power outages. Energy teams are working to restore electricity.

The attacks came ahead of a crucial meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago, Florida. The talks aim to reach a deal to end the war. Zelensky said discussions will focus on which territories each side will control once fighting ends. Russia has not immediately commented on Saturday’s attacks.

Peace Plans with the US

Control of territory remains the main diplomatic obstacle. Ukraine has presented a 20-point peace plan supported by the US. It includes security guarantees, a free economic zone, and discussions about the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.

Kiev wants the fighting to stop at current lines. Russia demands that Ukraine withdraw from some areas in the Donetsk region.

Zelensky said he is ready to submit the peace plan to a referendum if the US supports a 60-day ceasefire. Moscow has noted differences between Ukraine’s plan and the one it discussed with the US. Despite these tensions, officials on both sides remain engaged in talks.

The war has caused immense suffering. Each new attack reminds the world that peace remains fragile. The coming negotiations could determine whether the fighting continues or a path toward lasting stability is possible.
