A Russian airstrike hit the Sloviansk Thermal Power Plant in eastern Ukraine on October 30, killing two workers and injuring five others, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“Just a few hours ago, there was a strike on the Sloviansk TPP—a strike by Russian bombs,” Zelenskyy said in a statement. “Unfortunately, two people were killed. My condolences. There are wounded.”

Zelenskyy condemned the strike as another deliberate attack on civilian infrastructure, saying, “Normal nations don’t wage war like this. There must be an appropriate global response to such Russian aggression.”

Victims identified

Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy identified the victims as Serhii Dyachenko and Mykhailo Hryhoriev, both employees of the facility.

The five injured workers were transported to a hospital for treatment.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine is working with international partners to prepare its energy sector for the cold months ahead.

“It is very important that we have concrete agreements with Norway on energy — including gas purchases,” he said. “We also have agreements with Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands on equipment for power generation and are counting on support from the European Commission.”

Ukraine’s energy minister is currently in talks with G7 counterparts to coordinate additional aid. “These are countries that can and will support Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said. “We are ensuring consistent work with them.”
