Russian Drone Hits Maternity Hospital in Odesa Attack

A Russian aerial attack on June 9 has damaged a maternity hospital and emergency facilities in Odesa.

A Russian drone strike in the early hours of June 9 damaged multiple civilian sites in Odesa, including a maternity hospital, according to statements by local and regional Ukrainian authorities.

Odesa Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov confirmed that the administrative section of the maternity hospital sustained damage. The Odesa Regional Military Administration reported that the attack also affected an emergency medical station and nearby residential buildings.

Oleh Kiper, head of the regional administration, clarified that a loitering munition struck an administrative building just meters from the main maternity facility.

As of the time of reporting, no injuries had been confirmed, but authorities were continuing to check for possible victims.

The attack was part of a larger Russian aerial offensive on June 9, which involved a total of 499 munitions, according to Ukraine’s Air Force Command. These included 479 drones and decoy UAVs, along with 20 missiles.

The missiles launched included:

  • 4 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal ballistic missiles
  • 10 Kh-101 cruise missiles
  • 3 Kh-22 cruise missiles
  • 2 Kh-31P anti-radiation missiles
  • 1 Kh-35 cruise missile

Odesa, a port city on the Black Sea, has been a repeated target of Russian attacks. Colonel Pavlo Palisa, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, stated that Russia aims to cut Ukraine off from the Black Sea by 2026 and fully occupy territory east of the Dnipro River.

Officials continue to assess the full extent of the damage from the June 9 assault.
