A desperate mother
A video circulating online shows a grieving Russian woman lashing out at her government. The footage highlights the raw anger building among military families.
According to the Moscow Times cited by WP, Ms. Sterkhova waited a year and eight months for her son’s remains. When authorities finally returned him, the body was missing its head.
That horrific discovery pushed her to address President Vladimir Putin directly. In her recorded statement, she did not hold back.
“A few days ago, I buried my son. What is happening in our Russia? Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, what are you doing? You’re destroying our boys! You’re destroying them, killing them,” she said.
Threats of civil war
Sterkhova quickly moved from sorrow to outright fury. She looked into the camera and delivered a stark warning to the Russian leader.
“Do you want a civil war? You’ll get it soon,” she said.
Bureaucracy added insult to her loss. She explained that a recruitment office demanded an original death document before paying out a promised allowance.
But officials had already confiscated that exact paperwork weeks earlier, leaving her trapped in an impossible administrative loop.

As rumors of another mass mobilization grow across the country, Sterkhova made a firm vow. She declared she would never let the state take her surviving son.
“Mothers, rise up, rise up. Why are they killing our sons? It’s a mockery! Putin, when will you stop all this?” she pleaded.
Hidden casualty numbers
Official figures from Moscow remain remarkably low. Behind the scenes, independent trackers paint a completely different picture.
The US Center for Strategic and International Studies estimates total Russian casualties reached 1.4 million by June 2026. That massive figure includes at least 450,000 fatalities.
