Russian assault troops attempting to advance in the Donetsk region are reportedly hiding among deceased soldiers to evade Ukrainian drones.

Russian assault troops in the Donetsk region are reportedly utilizing extreme concealment tactics to evade Ukrainian surveillance. According to United24 Media, these military forces are actively attempting to advance toward the town of Dobropillia. The soldiers have resorted to hiding among the bodies of their fallen comrades to avoid detection by aerial drones.

The 20th Liubart Brigade of the Ukrainian National Guard recently released a 3-minute video documenting these battlefield maneuvers. This military unit currently operates as an active component of the 1st Azov Corps along the eastern front. The released footage clearly depicts Russian infantry movements and their repeated attempts to advance through the heavily contested area.

The accompanying military account describes Russian soldiers attempting to conceal themselves completely among the deceased servicemen. These tactical maneuvers apparently aim to prevent Ukrainian drone operators from identifying and targeting the advancing infantry units. Russian commanders have spent months attempting to penetrate these established defensive positions using small assault groups.

High casualty rates and tactical failures

The Russian military has repeatedly deployed these small infantry groups along the exact same approach toward the town. These repetitive tactical movements aim to infiltrate Ukrainian positions and establish concentrations of personnel in nearby tree lines. However, these persistent attacks along the identical route continue to result in substantial casualties for the advancing forces.

Ukrainian defenders observing the battlefield reported a distinct lack of mutual assistance among the attacking Russian troops. The advancing soldiers reportedly leave their wounded or fallen personnel behind while continuing their forward movements. This lack of medical evacuation forces incoming infantry to navigate directly through fields of previously deceased combatants.

The Ukrainian brigade provided specific estimates regarding the survival rate of these incoming Russian infantry assaults. According to the military unit, approximately 9 out of 10 Russian assault troops fail to reach their intended destination. This exceptionally high casualty figure was provided directly by the Ukrainian defenders and has not been independently verified.

Regional counteroffensives and strategic goals

These localized infantry struggles occur amidst broader regional counteroffensives recently executed by the Ukrainian armed forces. On October 14, Ukrainian military officials reported significant territorial gains during a coordinated campaign designated as Operation Vivaldi. The military claimed to have successfully recaptured 277 square kilometers of contested territory across the Donetsk region.

During this operational push, defending forces successfully liberated 16 different settlements from Russian military control. These sudden territorial re-acquisitions successfully disrupted broader Russian strategic plans for the immediate operational area. Specifically, the Ukrainian advances thwarted ongoing Russian efforts to fully encircle the key cities of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.

The successful defense of these critical urban centers remains a primary strategic objective for the Ukrainian military command. Meanwhile, Russian commanders continue funneling small infantry squads into the heavily defended approaches near Dobropillia. The ongoing deployment of these evasion tactics highlights the severe attrition characterizing the current eastern frontline.
