Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says that Russia’s plans for a new offensive in the Sumy region have been stopped, thanks to the actions of Ukraine’s defense forces.
Objectives Met in Sumy
Speaking on June 30 after a briefing with military leaders, Zelenskyy said Ukrainian forces had completed all assigned tasks in the Sumy direction over the past week.
“A week ago, we set special tasks and concrete positions for our troops. As of today, these tasks have been fully completed. That’s important,” he stated on Telegram.
He emphasized that Russia’s offensive efforts in Sumy “are not being realized,” crediting Ukrainian military units for this success.

Intense Fighting in the East
Zelenskyy also highlighted that heavy fighting continues in the eastern Donetsk region, especially near Pokrovsk.
“The front line, especially the Pokrovsk direction, remains extremely active. A significant concentration of Russian forces is there, with many assaults underway,” he said.
He thanked all units involved for their “resilience” under constant pressure.
Zelenskyy noted that Ukrainian forces are also continuing the so-called Kursk operation, which has been ongoing for nearly 10 months.
He did not give details but said the goal of the operation remains unchanged.
50,000 Russian Troops Near Border
Reports earlier this week indicated that Russia has positioned about 50,000 troops near the border with Sumy, increasing pressure on Ukraine’s northeastern front.
Despite this, Ukrainian defenses have held firm, according to government sources.
