US President Donald Trump has addressed growing questions about a potential reunion with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
He confirmed that he remains open to sitting down with the Kremlin leader, but only if the timing aligns with a major diplomatic breakthrough.
According to reports by Onet News and the Polish Press Agency, Trump made his stance clear during recent remarks regarding the war in Ukraine. He stressed that a face-to-face meeting makes sense only when both nations are genuinely prepared to stop fighting.
“He would do it. I want it, but I want to do it when we’re ready to reach a peace agreement,” Trump stated.
Fresh momentum builds
The president expressed optimism about the current direction of diplomatic talks between Moscow and Kyiv. He suggested that recent conversations have created real momentum toward ending the long-running conflict.
Trump noted that a “new energy impulse” is driving negotiations forward. He added that an agreement between Russia and Ukraine may be much closer than many people realize.
His hopeful tone stands in sharp contrast to the reality on the ground. Russian forces launched fresh airstrikes across Ukraine overnight, hitting a multistory apartment building in Odessa and injuring eight residents.
Tensions remain high
Falling drone debris also injured a man in the Khmelnytskyi region during the latest bombardment. At the same time, diplomatic spats between Moscow and Western nations continue to escalate.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced Moscow is shutting down branches of Germany’s Goethe Institute after German authorities closed Russian facilities in Berlin and Bonn.
