“The successful operation gives us control over a significant stretch of water, strengthening our defense,” noted the Ukrainian Coast Guard in a statement accompanying images of the mission.
The gas platforms are located near Snake Island, a site of symbolic and strategic significance that Russia captured early in its invasion. Ukraine regained control of the island in 2022, and this recent capture of nearby gas platforms further solidifies their presence in the region.
