Ukrainian special forces captured strategic gas platforms in the Black Sea, located near Snake Island.

Took Control of Gas Platforms

The successful mission was carried out by Ukrainian intelligence services and border police, aiming to reinforce control over a significant portion of the Black Sea, as confirmed by the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, according to Digi24.

According to footage released by Ukrainian authorities, the operation involved taking control of the gas extraction platforms, which had been held by Russian forces since the early days of the invasion of Ukraine.

These platforms are considered of high strategic importance due to their location, offering Ukraine greater surveillance and defense capabilities over the surrounding waters.

The Ukrainian State Border Guard Service confirmed that their special units, in collaboration with Ukraine's Defense Intelligence Service, were responsible for recapturing the gas platforms.

"The successful operation gives us control over a significant stretch of water, strengthening our defense," noted the Ukrainian Coast Guard in a statement accompanying images of the mission.

The gas platforms are located near Snake Island, a site of symbolic and strategic significance that Russia captured early in its invasion. Ukraine regained control of the island in 2022, and this recent capture of nearby gas platforms further solidifies their presence in the region.

While the exact specifications of the platforms remain undisclosed, their strategic value cannot be overstated. Controlling these installations allows Ukraine to monitor vast areas of the Black Sea, which plays a crucial role in regional security and energy resources.
