Longest Sniper Kill in History Achieved by Ukrainian Soldier
War often produces extraordinary stories. In Ukraine, where the fighting has dragged on for years, one soldier has now set a new world record that is already making headlines around the globe.
A Long Shot
According to reports from Kyiv Post, a Ukrainian sniper has broken the record for the longest confirmed kill shot in history.
The soldier struck a Russian target from an astonishing 4,000 meters away. The shot was made with the Alligator rifle, a weapon designed and built in Ukraine.
Without Help
Military journalist Yuri Butusov released video evidence and said the shot was taken on August 14, 2025.
It was carried out with the support of drones and artificial intelligence, which helped guide the strike. The name of the sniper has not been revealed.
Intense Battle
The record came during some of the most intense battles now raging in eastern Ukraine. Heavy fighting continues around the city of Pokrovsk, which lies west of Donetsk.
Russian forces have poured an estimated 110,000 troops into the area and managed to break through parts of the Ukrainian defense line.
Despite this pressure, Ukrainian fighters have been able to mount fierce resistance, and the sniper’s achievement adds a dramatic twist to the ongoing struggle.
Beats Previous Records
This new shot beats the previous record by about 200 meters. That record had also been held by a Ukrainian soldier, who used the Volodar Obriyu rifle to hit a Russian soldier from 3,800 meters away.
Experts say the Alligator rifle is capable of even more. Its bullets can travel up to 7 kilometers. But distance is not the only challenge. The farther a bullet travels, the more its accuracy is affected by factors like wind and air pressure.
No Signs of Slowing Down
At around 1.5 kilometers, hitting a target already becomes extremely difficult. That means the record-breaking strike at 4 kilometers was likely achieved after multiple attempts and careful adjustments.
While the war in Ukraine shows no sign of slowing, moments like this reveal how quickly military technology is evolving.
