The US Embassy in Bogotá, Colombia, is also warning Americans not to travel to Venezuela. Travel warnings have been in place since 2019.

The State Department said that with international flights resuming, Americans should leave as soon as possible. They should enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program, or STEP, to get updates about security conditions. Travelers are advised to be aware of their surroundings and take precautions before leaving.

There are reports that armed militia groups, known as colectivos, are setting up roadblocks. They may stop vehicles to check for US citizenship or signs of support for the United States. Americans are told to remain alert and exercise caution when traveling on public roads.

A Level 4 Travel Warning

Power and utility outages are still happening across Venezuela. The country is considered extremely dangerous. The State Department gives Venezuela a Level 4 travel warning, which is the highest level. This warning notes serious risks, including illegal detentions, torture in custody, terrorism, kidnappings, arbitrary enforcement of local laws, crime, civil unrest, and weak medical infrastructure.
