A gym in China is offering a luxury sports car to anyone who can drop 100 pounds in just three months.
A gym in Binzhou City, located in China’s Shandong Province, is turning heads after announcing a high-stakes weight-loss challenge.
The first person to lose 100 pounds (50 kilograms) in three months will win a used 2020 Porsche Panamera.
Participants must pay a 10,000 yuan (about $1,400) entry fee, which covers three months of intensive training, accommodation and meals.
The competition will close once 30 participants have registered. As of now, seven or eight people have already signed up, according to a gym coach identified as Wang in local media reports.
The Porsche being offered reportedly belongs to the gym’s owner and is being used as motivation for gym-goers to achieve dramatic results.
Experts raise red flags
While the promotion has generated buzz online and locally, medical professionals are warning that the extreme goal poses serious health risks.
“Losing 0.5 kg a day is too fast,” one health expert noted, as cited by OC. “Unless you’re severely overweight, this pace will likely result in muscle loss rather than fat, which can lead to hormonal imbalances, hair loss and other complications.”
Dr. Fu Yansong, a gastroenterologist at Shaanxi Provincial People’s Hospital, also criticized the program, saying, “Rapid weight loss can put a strain on vital organs and may even endanger life.”
He added that healthy, lasting weight loss should be gradual, allowing the brain, muscles, organs and metabolism to adapt to the new body composition and energy balance.
Despite the risks, the challenge remains open and continues to attract attention.
