Speaking on comedian Amy Poehler’s podcast Good Hang, former First Lady Michelle Obama shared that her ongoing disagreement with husband, the former president Barack Obama, involves something many couples can relate to.

It’s a battle with a partner,” she said. “He’s always cold and I’m like, ‘Do not touch.’

According to Michelle, temperature control is a sensitive subject in their home.

“Sometimes I get in the bed and I’m freezing and other times it’s like, ‘Oh my god, take my skin off,’” she explained, describing the nightly tug-of-war over comfort levels.

She also joked that she often accuses her husband of sneaking out of bed to adjust the thermostat.

“‘Did you touch the thermostat? You touched the thermostat, didn’t you?’” she said, mimicking a late-night confrontation.

“And he’s like, ‘I didn’t, I swear to God.’ He now knows. He’s afraid of the thermostat.”

Addressing Rumors

During the interview with Poehler, Obama also addressed the growing public curiosity about her personal life.

Her recent solo appearances — including a successful podcast, bestselling books, and a high-profile speaking tour — have fueled speculation about her future plans and private routines.

Michelle put those rumors to rest during a recent appearance on The Diary of a CEO podcast with Steven Bartlett, recorded May 1. She addressed the speculation directly:

“f I were having problems with my husband, everybody would know about it,” she said. “I would be problem solving in public. I’m not a martyr.

Life After the White House

In interviews this spring, the 61-year-old former first lady has been open about how she’s navigating this new phase of her life.

Speaking on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, Michelle revealed that she’s returned to therapy, calling it part of her ongoing adjustment to life after eight years in the White House and now being an empty nester.

At this phase of my life, I’m in therapy right now because I’m transitioning,” she said. “I’ve finished a really hard thing in my life with my family intact… Now, every choice that I’m making is completely mine.

She’s also shared her excitement about embracing a more relaxed and private lifestyle.

“I want to do normal things,” she told Poehler. “I want to feel like I’m by myself… driving by myself… in the car by myself.”

A Public Yet Private Couple

Michelle and Barack Obama have long been one of America’s most prominent public couples.

Married since 1992, they met while working at a Chicago law firm in the late 1980s.

Though both are frequently in the spotlight, Michelle has often emphasized her desire to maintain a sense of personal authenticity. Even when discussing seemingly trivial topics like bedtime routines.
