Executives at British defense manufacturers received warnings regarding an elevated threat of Russian espionage. These companies face increased intelligence activity due to their role in supplying military equipment to Ukraine. British officials delivered these alerts during a closed-door meeting earlier this summer.
Targeting defense manufacturers
According to United24 Media, companies developing drones and strike weapons are of particular interest to Russian intelligence services. One potential target is Ukrspecsystems, a British-Ukrainian manufacturer producing unmanned aircraft for the frontline. Its British facility is located near an airbase utilized by the United States Air Force.
Another target identified in the report is Callen-Lenz, a subsidiary specializing in unmanned aviation systems. As noted by United24 Media, this company supplies drone technology connected to Ukrainian operations against Russian oil infrastructure. These strikes often occur inside Russian territory and rely on Western support.
The missile manufacturer MBDA could also attract attention from intelligence operatives. According to United24 Media, this company produces the Storm Shadow cruise missile used against Russian military facilities. These long-range weapons remain among the most important systems supplied by Western allies to Ukraine.
Expanding hybrid warfare operations
This warning arrives as Britain increases security around its defense industry. British authorities warn that Russian intelligence activity has intensified since Moscow launched its invasion. As highlighted by United24 Media, the security agency MI5 reported a 48% increase in state-threat investigations over a single year.
Moscow is increasingly deploying gray-zone methods against the United Kingdom to disrupt supply chains.
